       White amorphous powder of paraformaldehyde. Smell of formaldehyde. It is a linear polymer of formaldehyde. Without a fixed melting point, decomposition occurs when heated. Melting point 120 ~ 170ºC. Soluble in hot water and formaldehyde, slowly soluble in cold water, soluble in caustic soda and alkali metal carbonate solution, insoluble in alcohol and ether, its high polymer insoluble in water. Reactions similar to formaldehyde can occur, such as chloromethylation, and the formation of acetals with alcohols. Used in synthetic resins, adhesives, fungicides, insecticides, disinfectants, etc.
