Resorcinol is an important organic synthetic raw material, mainly used in rubber adhesives, analytical reagents, preservatives and drugs, dyes, synthetic resins and other raw materials. Red (also called mercuric bromide red) can be produced by co-heating with mercuric acetate, which is an important antiseptic. It is easily soluble in water, 2% of the water solution is daily disinfection for the "red medicine". An alcohol-acetone solution of can also be used to disinfect the skin. Resorcinol and caproic acid can be rereduced by acylation reaction to produce 4-n-hexylresorcinol, which is also a disinfectant. It is also used as a local antipruritic and intestinal digester in medicine.
